Work with Nic

Research and evaluation

Nic loves the world of research and evaluation, and believes strongly in the role that having good evidence can play in effecting change. She is particularly interested in research that involves partnering with people with learning disabilities to explore issues of importance to them, or to create positive and practical changes. Recently Nic has completed two formal research studies related to advance care planning, and has been involved in numerous evaluation projects with disability service providers.

Advance care planning training

One of Nic’s areas of expertise relates to supporting people with learning disabilities to develop their own advance care plans – it has been the focus of two major research projects and additional publications. Nic’s background in learning and development makes her the ideal person to deliver training on this topic to disability professionals, health professionals, family and whānau, and people with learning disabilities. Please contact Nic for more information on planned workshop dates, or to schedule a workshop for your group or organisation. You can read more about advance care planning here.

Service review and development

Nic is a disability sector professional with broad expertise, and significant experience in reviewing and supporting service-improvement processes. She has worked with a variety of providers, and government agencies to develop the support that they provide, to ensure that it is of high quality and meets the needs and preferences of people with learning disabilities. Nic’s depth of skills related to communication, learning and development, and evidence-based practice, mean that she is well placed to lead review processes, make recommendations for development or for change, and to provide support and guidance with implementation.

Developing learning and development materials

Nic is available to develop evidence-based educational workshops for your group or organisation. She has worked with large and small disability providers on bespoke projects, as well as with tertiary providers to develop materials to support health and wellbeing qualifications. Nic is passionate about the need for learning and development activities to not only meet your workplace requirements, but to reflect what is important to people with learning disabilities and their whānau. Nic is superb at researching and working with subject matter experts to identify best-practice, and then translating information to make it ‘understandable’, engaging, and practical.

Policy writing

It can be hard to find someone who loves to write, let alone someone who loves to write policy. Nic is that person. She has worked with various disability providers over the years to lead policy-development tasks, from whole policy manuals from scratch, updates, writing of individual policies, and development of easy-read policies for people with learning disabilities. Nic developed these skills while studying a post-graduate certificate in public management (with papers related to policy), and has never looked back.

Supervision for disability service managers and support workers

Regular supervision is a great way to support your (or your team’s) learning, development, and wellbeing. Nic has been providing professional supervision for around twenty years, and enjoys supporting individuals to develop their practice, self-reflection, and confidence in a safe and comfortable environment. Nic’s approach is supportive and educational, while also ensuring that individuals are challenged, in positive and constructive ways, when appropriate. Nic can arrange regular supervision appointments, either at her office, at your office, or via video calling.
